The 1894 Laurel Illustrated Residence and Business Directory was unique in that there were no house numbers (they were not used yet) or, obviously, phone numbers. An example is the listing for future mayor:

“Waters, George W, jr, cashier Citizen’s National Bank, cor Washington and Laurel ave.”

Some minorities had listings, also, such as:

“America, Rachel, col., servant, residence Church bet Washington Main and Montgomery streets.”
